Starting as a legal assistant at a prominent nonprofit in Chicago, Fjolla realized the need for a more robust understanding of the legal field. Upon discovering her employer's reimbursement program for continuing education, she seized the opportunity to enhance her skills and knowledge. Loyola's ABA-accredited paralegal program stood out, especially with positive feedback from her sister, a current alum of Loyola.
One aspect that particularly enriched Fjolla's experience was the program's emphasis on practical, real-world applications.
"I feel like it was night and day. As soon as I started the certificate program and had my first three classes, I would go to work the next day, and I would actually know a certain legal paper means. I didn't have the context before that. The curriculum just helps inform every decision that you make."
Inspired by the authenticity displayed by program ambassadors during her orientation, Fjolla eagerly embraced the opportunity to pay it forward. Becoming an ambassador allowed her to offer genuine guidance and encouragement to incoming students, echoing the support she received when embarking on her own journey.
Fjolla advises future students that trust in oneself is paramount alongside strong organizational skills and open communication with faculty and peers.
"Just trust in yourself. Life can be very overwhelming. Organizational skills are your friend, and don't be afraid to be honest and just let people know what's going on. It is a flexible program, and the institution is there as a resource."
